The drive to Golden, CO

Today (Monday), we drove to Golden, CO, outside Denver. However, before we
hit the road, we stopped at the Crazy Horse monument. I remember hearing
about this when I was a kid, so I was surprised to find that it is far from
complete. It took them 50 years to carve his face. As we learned at the
exhibit, this privately financed and family-run project has gone so slowly
that it has been passed down from one generaiton to the next already. The
first 14 years there was only one man, the sculptor, working on the project!
I guess they aren't going for the speed record.
The monument will be very impressive if they ever finish. At this pace,
perhaps my grandchildren will see it. We just saw the face...
The drive to Golden was uneventful. The scenery was vast rolling hills in
South Dakota and Wyoming. It was kind of boring. But, we're good at these
trips now, and so are the kids.
The campground in Golden is really nice, and we'll explore Denver tomorrow.
We are staying here 3 nights, which is a first for us on this trip.
Otherwise, we did some laundry tonight and just hung around.
